Transfer of research

The Transfer and Entrepreneurship Office team supports MLU scientists and students in examining the potential for application and economic valorization in scientific findings, novel technologies and their specific know-how, and in finding ways to put those assets to practical use in the form of innovative product ideas, processes and more. In knowledge and technology transfer from research, various proven formats are available, ranging from direct cooperation with companies, to contract research, the licensing of knowledge and technologies, and the founding of start-ups from science.

Transfer and Entrepreneurship Office services:

  • research on funding opportunities for innovation projects
  • individual advice on funding programmes and applications
  • information events or meetups to present and discuss funding programmes (customized for topics and scientific areas)
  • completion of formal application sections, preparation of text modules with reference to application-related research valorisation, business model options, potential for business start-up
  • preparation of opinions on eligibility/worthiness for funding
  • communication with funding agencies during the application phase
  • obtaining necessary MLU legal declarations and official signatures
  • advice on intellectual property rights (patenting etc.) aspects of the project
  • contract research / scientific service provision: advising principal investigators on formal and financial conditions
  • support in calculation of offers and preparation of (preliminary) contracts, together with the team of division 6.1 - research funding
  • management / administrative support for scientists in innovation and start-up projects (from proof of concept to company start-up or technology marketing)
  • support of scientists in contract research


Service on funding programmes related to applied research and research valorization / transfer:

  • advice on and project support with e.g. BMBF, BMWK or Sachsen-Anhalt innovation or business start-up grants (e.g. Validierungsförderung (VIP+, Neue Produkte für die Bioökonomie, EXIST, GO-Bio, GO-Bio inital, ego.-Gründungstransfer, ego.-START, MTI „Innovative Start-ups für Mensch-Technik-Interaktion“) as well as R&D grants for industry cooperation (various specific or technology-open grants)
  • management of technology valorization/marketing

Contact point for industry and SME

Companies have to compete in their markets on a daily basis and depend on innovation. The Transfer and Entrepreneurship Office is Martin Luther University's first point of contact for companies interested in scientific expertise, research and development cooperation with scientists or in the commercial use of technologies and intellectual property from MLU.

Offers to companies:

  • contact point for research enquiries and specific consulting needs
  • information on MLU's research fields and on licensable technologies
  • information on available scientific consulting and service contracting, as well as on ways to start cooperation projects
  • identifying and arranging contacts to the relevant scientific experts and research groups
  • access to spin-out and startup companies related to MLU
